São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Manhattan is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas, located in the northeastern part of the state and is the county seat of Riley County. The city is located about 80 kilometers from the state capital, Topeka, and has a population of about 55,000 people. Manhattan is home to Kansas State University, a university known for agriculture, engineering and veterinary medicine, which infuses the city with a strong academic atmosphere.
The city's surroundings are characterized by the Flint Hills landscape, which offers abundant opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and camping. The local economy is dominated by education, healthcare, and manufacturing, as well as a vibrant cultural and arts scene that includes museums, music festivals, and sporting events.
Manhattan is often referred to as the "Little Apple" in reference to Manhattan, New York, reflecting its friendly, livable environment. Conveniently located with regional airports and major highway connections, it is one of the major educational and cultural centers in Kansas.
