São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Papaichton is an important town in the French Overseas Department of French Guiana in the western part of the country, situated on the banks of the Maroni River, near the Suriname border. As the administrative center of the inland rainforest region, the city is known for its unique ecology and indigenous culture.
Surrounded by the Amazon rainforest, the city is home to the Arawak and Kalina indigenous peoples and is known for its traditional hammock architecture and handicrafts. The Maroni River is both a transportation artery and a central resource for ecotourism, where visitors can experience rainforest trekking and canoeing adventures.
Despite its distance from the capital, Cayenne, and the Kourou Space Center, Papaihitén is an important node in French Guiana's sustainable development strategy, thanks to its biodiversity research values and its policy of preserving indigenous cultures. The economy is based on forestry, fishing and ecotourism, emphasizing the multicultural integration of the French Overseas Territories.
