Kościan is a historic city in the Wielkopolskie voivodship of Poland, located in the western part of the voivodship, about 50 kilometers from the voivodship's capital Poznań, on the banks of the Warta River, and surrounded by rich agricultural resources. The city's history dates back to the Middle Ages, and it gained its city rights in the 14th century. The old town retains the Gothic St. Martin's Church and the Renaissance-style Market Square, displaying a deep cultural heritage. As a regional economic center, Koschenskýn is focused on agricultural machinery manufacturing, food processing and light industry, and is well connected to Poznań and neighboring towns. Traditional farmers' markets and folklore festivals are held annually, attracting tourists to experience the culture of the Polish countryside. The city's blend of historic architecture and modern amenities is a prime example of how rural development in the Wielkopolskie voivodship can be understood.
