Meigu County belongs to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China, located in the southwest of Sichuan, in the hinterland of the Greater Liangshan Mountains. The county has a predominantly Yi population, accounting for more than 98% of the total population, and is an important birthplace and preservation site of Yi culture. Meigu County, whose name is derived from the Yi word "Mogu" meaning "beautiful place", is between 1,000 and 4,000 meters above sea level, and its terrain is dominated by mountains and plateaus.
Meigu is famous for its rich Yi traditional culture, including the Year of the Yi, the Torch Festival, the Pimo culture and the art of dress. It is an important inheritance area for the national intangible cultural heritages of Yi embroidery and Yi silver jewelry.
