Introduction to Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County

Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County is located in the western edge of Hunan Province, China, under Huaihua City, at the Xiang-Guizhou junction, bordering Tongren City, Guizhou Province. The total area of the county is about 1,508 square kilometers, with a population of about 270,000, with Dong as the main ethnic minority accounting for more than 80% of the total population, and it is one of the important birthplaces of Dong culture in China. With mountainous terrain and subtropical monsoon climate, Xinhuang is rich in natural resources and has high forest coverage.

Culture and Characteristics

Xinhuang is famous for the traditional culture of the Dong ethnic group, with unique ethnic songs and dances, costumes and architecture, such as drum towers and wind and rain bridges. Local delicacies such as Xinhuang yellow beef, Dong sour fish and oil tea are popular among tourists. Historical sites include the culture of the ancient country of Yelang and the red sites of the Red Army's Long March.
