Located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province, Wuhua County belongs to Meizhou City and is situated in the upper reaches of the Han River, with a total area of 3,226 square kilometers. As one of the important birthplaces of Hakka culture, its history can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty in the fourth year of Xining (1071), formerly known as Changle County, which was changed to its current name in 1914.
Wuhua is known as the "hometown of soccer", and is one of the birthplaces of modern soccer in China, where the sport was introduced in 1873. Meanwhile, as the "Hometown of Stone Carving Art", Wuhua is famous for its stonemasons' craftsmanship, and some of the bas-reliefs of the Monument to the People's Heroes in Beijing came from the hands of Wuhua's craftsmen. There are also a large number of intangible cultural heritages such as Hakka Dragon House and Tea Casting Opera.
The county is a hilly and mountainous area with the Qin River as its main river. The economy is based on agriculture, producing rice, pomelo and tea, while the industry is based on building materials and pharmaceuticals. In recent years, it has been actively developing eco-tourism, with unique tourism resources such as the Qimei Roach Provincial Nature Reserve and the Tanghu Thermal Mineral Mud Lodge. With a population of about 1.5 million (2020) and a large number of overseas Chinese, the county is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese.
