Introduction to Shannan City, Tibet, China

Shannan City is located in the south of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, at latitude 27°31′-29°47′N, longitude 90°14′-94°22′E, one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in Tibet. The city has a total area of 79,300 square kilometers, with an average altitude of 3,700 meters, under the jurisdiction of 1 district and 11 counties, with a resident population of about 350,000 people.

History, Culture and Status

Shannan is known as the "cradle of Tibetan culture", and is the birthplace of the Tibetan nation and Tibetan culture. Here was born the first dynasty in the history of Tibet - the Tubo Dynasty, established the first palace Yongbrakang, the first Buddhist temple Changzhu Monastery, the first piece of farmland Sodang, the first temple Sangye Monastery. The story of the marriage between Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng also took place here, preserving important historical relics such as the tomb complex of Tibetan kings.
