Located in the Bragança region of northeastern Portugal, Rebordãos is a peaceful mountain village near the Spanish border. Nestled in the upper valley of the Mondego River at an altitude of around 700 meters, the town is known for its rolling olive groves, ancient stone houses and well-preserved traditional farming culture.
The typical Trash-Montréch architecture is preserved here, with barns made of granite and houses with carved wooden balconies everywhere. Every summer, during the Feast of St. John, residents lay floral carpets along the streets in a unique display of religious folklore. There are several hiking trails around the town that lead to the waterfalls of the Mondego River Nature Reserve and the Iberian wolf habitat.
Dating back to the Christian recovery movement of the 12th century, Rebodanche takes its name from the Latin word "repurgare" (to clear), alluding to its past as a military frontier. Today, the local economy is based on olive oil production, animal husbandry and, in recent years, eco-tourism has led to the development of a number of family-run bed and breakfasts, making it an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
