Huehuetán is a city in the region of Soconusco in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico, located on the Pacific coast near the border with Guatemala. The city is about 200 meters above sea level and has a tropical climate with a predominantly agrarian economy, especially known for its coffee, mango and coconut cultivation.
Huehuetan has a rich indigenous cultural tradition, and the local population, mostly of Mayan ethnicity, retains a distinctive language and customs. Historically an important node on ancient trade routes, it was influenced by Spain during the colonial period, and colonial-style architecture can still be seen in the center of the city. Every year, traditional festivals are organized with music and dance events, demonstrating the fusion of multiple cultures.
Surrounded by tropical jungles and mountains, Vevertan has natural landscapes such as waterfalls and rivers, making it suitable for eco-tourism. Just 20 kilometers from the Pacific coast, visitors can combine beach and inland adventure. Coffee is abundant in the region, and visiting coffee estates is one of the featured experiences.
