Located in the Bay of Kotor in southwestern Montenegro, Zaton is an Adriatic seaside town just a few kilometers from the historic city of Kotor. The town is famous for its two quiet bays "Big Zaton" and "Little Zaton", surrounded by mountains and blue water, preserving the original natural features and simple folk customs. Inside the town, the stone paths wind through the Venetian-style buildings in the old town and the orange trees and palms are a delightful contrast, giving the town a laid-back atmosphere. Zaton is the ideal place to experience "life as a journey": stroll along deserted beaches in the morning, explore the hidden fjords of the Bay of Kotor on a yacht in the afternoon, and enjoy fresh seafood and Montenegrin olive oil dishes in seaside restaurants in the evening. Away from the hustle and bustle, yet conveniently located, it is an understated jewel on Montenegro's Adriatic coast for travelers looking for a blend of tranquility and nature.
Berane is a historical city in the north of Montenegro, located on the banks of the river Lim and belongs to the administrative center of the northeastern region of the Republic of Montenegro. As the fourth largest city in Montenegro, Berane has a population of about 11,000 and is situated in a basin surrounded by mountains, with a mild climate and beautiful nature.
Berane was first recorded in the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century and was formerly known as "Budomlija". The city retains the remains of Ottoman architecture and Orthodox monasteries, such as the famous St. George's Church. During World War II, it was an important stronghold in the fight against fascism. Serbian culture is predominant in the region, with traditional handicrafts and folklore festivals.
The economy is based on agriculture, wood processing and small-scale industry, with ecotourism gradually developing in recent years. Parts of the Björgradiska Mountain National Park are located in the surrounding area and are suitable for hiking and nature exploration. The city has a good infrastructure, with highways connecting the main cities of Montenegro, and is an important hub to the Serbian border.
