Weymouth is a coastal city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States, located about 12 miles southeast of Boston, adjacent to Quincy and Hingham. An important part of the Greater Boston area, Weymouth has a total area of approximately 21.6 square miles, nearly one-third of which is water, and is rich in shoreline resources.
Founded in 1622, Weymouth is the second oldest settlement in Massachusetts. According to the 2020 Census, the city has approximately 57,000 residents and is predominantly white while having a diverse neighborhood structure. The city consists of four main areas: the East Weymouth, South Weymouth, North Weymouth, and Weymouth Collar areas.
Weymouth's economy is dominated by healthcare, retail and educational services, with South Shore Hospital being the largest employer in the area. The city is well connected to Boston via Interstate 93 and commuter rail, and the MBTA commuter rail has two stations, East Weymouth and Weymouth Landing. The former Naval Air Station is being redeveloped into a mixed-use neighborhood.
Weymouth has a quality public school system that includes a high school, three middle schools and six elementary schools. The city retains a small-town New England feel while offering modern conveniences. Weymouth Beach, the Weymouth Historical Society and Great Esker Park offer residents a wealth of recreational options.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
