Westland is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States, located west of the Detroit metropolitan area. Incorporated in 1966 from portions of the former township of Nordyville, the city derives its name from its historic geographic location in western Wayne County.
With an area of approximately 52.9 square kilometers and a resident population of approximately 84,000 according to the 2020 Census, Westland is the 24th largest city in Michigan. The city is close to the cities of Romulus and Livonia, and is about 30 miles from downtown Detroit, with easy access to a well-developed network of highways connecting the greater Detroit area.
Westland has a well-developed retail sector with large commercial centers such as the Westland Shopping Center as its economic core. The city boasts several community parks, golf courses, and the Westland Sports Center, as well as a well-developed library system and medical facilities. The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center is an important medical facility in the area.
Known for its diverse community structure and family-friendly living environment, Westland hosts annual community events such as summer concerts and Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. The city's education system is part of the Wayne-Westland Community School District, which offers a complete education system from preschool through high school.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
