Tongxin County is located in the south-central part of China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, under the jurisdiction of Wuzhong Municipality, and is situated in the transition zone between the Loess Plateau and the Inner Mongolian Plateau. As the most populous county in Ningxia with a Hui population of more than 85%, it has distinctive ethnic cultural and religious characteristics. With a total area of 4,466 square kilometers, the county has a temperate continental arid climate with an average annual precipitation of less than 300 millimeters.
Tongxin is a famous old revolutionary area, where the first county-level minority self-government in China's history, the Hui People's Self-Government of Yuhai County, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia Provinces, was established in 1936. There is the Tongxin Mosque built in the Ming Dynasty, which is one of the oldest existing mosques in Ningxia and is listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. The economy is mainly based on agriculture, producing specialty agricultural products such as wolfberries, beach goats, small grains, etc. In recent years, the new energy industry has been developing rapidly.
Qingyin Expressway and Fuyin Expressway pass through the country, and there is a concentric station of Yinxi High-speed Railway. Tourism resources are characterized by red culture and Hui ethnic style, the main attractions include the Red Army's West March Memorial Park, Luoshan National Nature Reserve, Ming Wangling Mausoleum, etc., which attracts a large number of tourists every year to feel the unique Hui culture.
