This strategically important city connects Dakar to the interior of Senegal and is one of the country's transportation and logistics centers, with several major highways intersecting. Thiès is also Senegal's main economic center, with a strong agricultural sector and a reputation for peanut cultivation and processing, earning it the nickname of "Peanut Capital". The city is a blend of tradition and modernity, with a unique local craft market that attracts tourists and neighborhood vendors. As a multi-ethnic area, the city is a window to the culture and development of the central region of Senegal, where the Wolof, Serer and other ethnic groups have mingled to form a unique folklore.
