With a total area of 23,800 square kilometers and an average altitude of about 3,000 meters, it has an alpine semi-arid climate. The Yugu culture is the core feature of Sunan, preserving unique language, costumes and folk activities, such as the national non-legacy program "Yugu Folk Song". The economy is dominated by animal husbandry, which produces high-quality alpine fine-wool sheep, as well as the development of eco-tourism and clean energy industries. The locality focuses on ecological protection and sustainable development, and is actively building a national ecological civilization demonstration county.
