Su'ao is located in the southeastern part of Yilan County, Taiwan Province of China, and is an important fishing port and transportation hub in Taiwan. The town boasts the famous Su'ao Harbor and Nanfang'ao Fishing Harbor, of which Nanfang'ao is one of the three largest fishing harbors in Taiwan, known for its rich seafood resources and fishing harbor culture. Su'ao Cold Spring is a globally rare low-temperature carbonic acid mineral spring, which is on a par with the Italian Cold Spring, and has a unique health value.
Located on the northeast coast of Taiwan, Su'ao is connected to the beginning of the Suhua Highway in the north and the Pacific Ocean in the south, making it an important node connecting Yilan and Hualien. The Su'ao Railway Station is the terminus of the Taiwan Railway's Eastern Main Line, and the town can be quickly connected to Taipei and other major cities via the Taiwan 9 Line Highway.
The town contains attractions such as Nanfangao Fishing Harbor Seafood Market, Wu-Lao Scenic Area, and Baimi Clog Village. Visitors can experience cold spring baths, taste freshly caught seafood, and visit such distinctive landmarks as the Cross-Sea Bridge and the Coral Mazu Temple. The Cold Spring Cultural Festival held every summer is an important local festival.
