Sheyang is located in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, China, which is situated in the North Jiangsu Plain and on the shore of the Yellow Sea, and is an important node city in the northern wing of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle. With a total area of about 2,776 square kilometers and a total population of over 970,000, the county is known for its agriculture, new energy sources and eco-tourism.
Sheyang has the longest coastline and mudflat wetlands in Jiangsu, and is known as the "Crane Township" as it is the wintering ground for rare birds such as the red-crowned crane. The economy is dominated by new energy (offshore wind power), high-end textiles, and machinery manufacturing, and Sheyang Port is one of the first open ports in China. Agriculture produces high-quality rice, Chinese herbs and aquatic products.
Sheyang retains traditional culture such as Huai Opera and paper-cutting, and attractions include the Danding Crane Nature Reserve, Xixin Temple and Houyi Cultural Park. With the Lianyan Railway and Shenhai Expressway running through the whole territory, the transportation is convenient, making it a popular destination for eco-tourism and investment.

As the sub-administrative center of Parwan province, Alakht has basic educational and healthcare facilities, but the overall level of development is relatively limited.
