Shenyang is the capital and largest city of Liaoning Province in China, located in the southern part of the Northeast region, and is an important hub of the Northeast Asian Economic Circle and the Bohai Economic Circle. As a national historical and cultural city, Shenyang has a history of more than 2,300 years and was once the birthplace of the Qing Dynasty, with such monuments as the Shenyang Imperial Palace (a World Heritage Site), the Qing Zhaoling Mausoleum and the Qing Fuling Mausoleum.
Modern Shenyang is the industrial and transportation core of Northeast China, with a strong base of equipment manufacturing, and is known as the "Ruhr of the East". The city's transportation is well-developed, with the Shenyang Taoxian International Airport, high-speed rail network and subway system connecting the country. The city's economy is dominated by high-end equipment manufacturing, automobiles, information technology and biomedicine, while actively developing science and technology innovation and cultural tourism.
The four distinct seasons, rich snow and ice tourism resources and special Northeast cuisine (such as pot-boiled pork and Laobian dumplings) make it a popular destination. with a resident population of more than 9 million in 2023, the city is the economic, cultural and scientific and educational center of the Northeast region.
