Sevan is a small town in the Armenian province of Gegharkunik, located in the eastern part of the country on the shores of Lake Sevan, about 66 kilometers from the capital city of Yerevan. The town is famous for its eponymous alpine lake, Lake Sevan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Eurasia, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level, which is known as the "Pearl of Armenia".
Lake Sevan is surrounded by magnificent landscapes and crystal clear waters, making it an important tourist and recreational destination in Armenia. The town boasts historical monuments such as the Sevan Monastery, a 9th-century monastery situated on a peninsula overlooking the lake, which attracts many tourists and pilgrims. The local economy is based on fishing, tourism and agriculture, and the climate is cool enough for summer vacations.
With a population of around 20,000, the town of Sevan retains its traditional Armenian culture, while the infrastructure is constantly being improved to provide accommodation and catering services. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the nature and history of the Caucasus and is easily accessible for short trips.
Chaohu is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, China, located in the core area of Hefei Metropolitan Area and the western wing of the Yangtze River Delta. As the only city in China named after a lake, Chaohu is named after Chaohu Lake, one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China. The city has a total area of 9,423 square kilometers and a total population of about 3.9 million.
Chaohu City is situated on the 800 square kilometers of Chaohu Lake, which is known as the "Oriental Geneva" because of its beautiful lakes and mountains. The city is a national key ecological function area, with natural landscapes such as the Bantang Hot Spring, Yinping Mountain and Ziwei Cave. The protection and management of the ecosystem of the Chaohu Lake Basin has become an important part of the strategy for the protection of the Yangtze River.
Chaohu Lake is one of the birthplaces of ancient mankind, with a documented history of about 3,000 years. It is the hometown of famous historical figures such as Fan Zeng and Zhou Yu, leaving behind numerous cultural relics and monuments. Modern Chaohu has formed four leading industries, namely, new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, and electronic information, and in 2022, the gross regional product will exceed 200 billion yuan.
Chaohu is located in the hinterland of the Golden Triangle of "HeNingWu", with the Huainan Railway and Hefei High Speed Railway passing through the city, and Nanjing and Hefei can be reached in one hour. With two 5A-level scenic spots, namely Sanhe Ancient Town and Zhongmiao Bushan Island, and over 30 million tourists annually, Chaohu is an important tourist destination and recreational resort in the Yangtze River Delta region.
