Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
Located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, Mayotte Koungou is the largest city and an important economic center of the French overseas dependency of Mayotte. The most densely populated town on Mayotte, Koungou is located in the northeast of the main island Grande-Terre, near the capital Mamoudzou, and is known for its active port and multicultural community.
Kungu is situated in a hilly area of volcanic origin, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and coral reef seas. The city's population is predominantly of Comorian origin, with a mix of African, Arab and French cultures, and the common languages are French and Comorian. It is rooted in Islamic culture, with a unique urban and rural landscape of mosques interspersed with colonial architecture.
The economy is based on port trade, agriculture and tourism, with the cultivation of vanilla, cloves and other spices as a traditional industry. In recent years, Cungo has developed a service sector and infrastructure based on Mayotte's status as an outlying region of the European Union. The pace of life is relaxed, with weekend fairs and beach activities forming an important part of the local social scene.
