Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
The capital of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, Baymahou is located on the island of Basseterre, facing the Caribbean Sea, and is the political and economic center of the archipelago. Famous for its colonial architecture, colorful houses and vibrant Creole culture, the city enjoys a typical tropical maritime climate with a stable annual temperature of between 25-30°C. The city is also known for its rich history and culture.
Baymau preserves historical sites such as the 19th century military fortress and the Cathedral of St. John Pelcé, and the market in the city center offers daily supplies of tropical fruits, spices and handicrafts. As the administrative hub of Guadeloupe, it has a concentration of government agencies, courts and major educational facilities, as well as a well-established port and airport connecting it to the Caribbean islands.
Visitors can experience eco-activities such as scuba diving and rainforest hiking, or participate in traditional celebrations such as the annual Carnival. The city is surrounded by black sand beaches, coral reefs and volcanic landscapes, while local specialties such as conch curry, a fusion of French and Caribbean flavors, are a cultural experience not to be missed.
