Pingwu County is located in the northwest of Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, in the transition zone from the Northwest Sichuan Plateau to the Sichuan Basin, and is an important ecological barrier on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. With Wanglang National Nature Reserve and vast panda habitats, Pingwu County is known as one of the "hometowns of pandas". Wanshan, belonging to Tongren City, Guizhou Province, is located in the hinterland of the Wuling Mountains, and is historically known as the "Mercury Capital of China", famous for its rich reserves of cinnabar and long history of mining.
