Papaichton is an important town in the French Overseas Department of French Guiana in the western part of the country, situated on the banks of the Maroni River, near the Suriname border. As the administrative center of the inland rainforest region, the city is known for its unique ecology and indigenous culture.
Surrounded by the Amazon rainforest, the city is home to the Arawak and Kalina indigenous peoples and is known for its traditional hammock architecture and handicrafts.
