Murfreesboro, located in the northeastern part of Van Buren County, Arkansas, USA, is the county seat of the county with a population of about 1,700 (2020 data) and is a quiet historic town. Founded in the early 19th century and named after Thomas Murfree, an early colonist, the town retains its 19th-century architecture and rural flavor. Its economy is based on agriculture (poultry farming, soybean farming) and tourism, and its proximity to the Buffalo National River draws visitors to experience outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. The Murfreesboro Historic District and the old county courthouse have seen the town grow, and the neighboring Crater of Diamonds State Park, although part of Howard County, is often an extension of the destination, adding to the town's unique charm.
