Makutano is a town in the Rift Valley Province of Western Kenya, located in Kericho County south of the equator. The name means "meeting place" in Kiswahili, and it is named after the location of the transportation hub of the cities of Kericho, Kapsabet and Kakamega.
Macutano is located at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level and has a tropical highland climate with an average annual temperature of 18-25°C. The town is surrounded by tea and coffee plantations. The agricultural landscape around the town is known for its tea fields and coffee plantations, and is one of the important tea-producing regions in Kenya. According to the Kenya 2019 census, Makutano has a permanent population of about 15,000 people, mainly Kalenjin residents.
The economy is centered on agriculture, with large tea estates and coffee cooperatives dotted around the area. There is a tea processing plant and an agricultural market in the town, and a weekly farmers' market attracts neighboring farmers. In recent years, the Rift Valley has been developing lodging and eco-tourism services based on the Rift Valley's tourist routes.
As the intersection of the C35 and C36 highways, Makutano is an important transit point connecting towns in western Kenya. It is 25 kilometers from Kericho County and about 150 kilometers from Nakuru, the capital of Rift Valley Province. The town has a basic health center and primary and secondary schools, and serves a radius of more than ten surrounding rural communities.
Located in the western part of Guangdong Province, Luoding is a county-level city under the administration of Yunfu City, known as the "Gateway to Western Guangdong" and the "Breadbasket of Lingnan", situated at the crossroads of Guangfu and Bagui cultures, with a long history of more than 1,400 years since it was established in the Southern Dynasty, and is one of the "Ancient Cultural Counties of Guangdong". It is one of the "Ancient Cultural Counties of Guangdong". The Changgangpo Ferry Trough in the county is known as the "Red Flag Canal of the South", which is a model of modern water conservancy engineering; Luoding has abundant products such as rice and cinnamon, and has deep agricultural roots. As an important node of the Maritime Silk Road, Luoding integrates the diverse cultures of Guangfu, Hakka and Lingnan, and retains a rich human heritage of ancient villages and ancestral halls. Nowadays, Luoding, relying on the advantages of the transportation hub, is accelerating its integration into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and writing a new modern chapter of the millennium-old town with the synergistic development of eco-agriculture, cultural and tourism industries, and manufacturing industry.
