São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Xiluo Township is located in the northern part of Yunlin County, Taiwan Province of China, and is an important agricultural town on the south bank of Turbid Water Creek. The town is famous for its specialty agricultural products, especially Xiluo rice, soy sauce and watermelon. Xiluo Yanping Old Street, which was built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, retains its baroque historical buildings and displays strong architectural characteristics of the Japanese colonial period. The landmark Xiluo Bridge (Hongqiao) is 1,939 meters long and was once the longest highway bridge in Taiwan, connecting the major north-south transportation routes. The annual Xiluo Taiping A-Ma Cultural Festival attracts many tourists and presents a rich religious and cultural heritage. As an important agricultural logistics center in Taiwan, Xiluo Township is a perfect blend of traditional industries, history and culture, and local culinary specialties.
