São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Arawa is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea, located on the west coast of Bougainville Island and is the political, economic and cultural center of the region. As the main town of Bougainville, Arawa has a natural harbor and is an important hub for the export of agricultural products and minerals from the surrounding area. The local economy is mainly based on agriculture and fishing, while relying on the rich natural resources, and has gradually recovered in recent years during the post-war reconstruction. Although the town's facilities are relatively simple, basic services such as schools and hospitals are well developed, and the residents are mostly Bougainvillean aborigines who have retained their unique traditional customs and culture. Alotau has a tropical rainforest climate, with high temperatures and heavy rainfall throughout the year, and is surrounded by dense rainforests and coral reefs, with rich and diverse natural landscapes.
