Dalcahue, Chile is an important port city in the Chiloé Islands of the Los Lagos Region of Chile, located on the east coast of the main island of Chiloé. An important part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chiloé Churches, Dalcahue is known for its Santa Maria Church, one of 16 unique wooden churches, which shows the fusion of 19th-century Spanish colonial and indigenous architectural styles.
Facing the Gulf of Corcovado, Dacavé enjoys a mild and rainy climate and is surrounded by forests and meadows. The craft market in the center of town is one of the largest traditional markets in the Chiloé Islands, featuring woolen fabrics, wood carvings and local produce. The religious festival of Santa Maria, held every January, attracts many visitors, combining Catholic rituals with indigenous Mapuche culture.
The economy is based on fishing, aquaculture and tourism. Visitors can take a ferry to a nearby island to explore the national park or experience the World Heritage Route. The city's preserved palafitos (water stilts) and clusters of colorful wooden houses have become popular locations for photographers.
