As an important inland city in Liberia, Bobolu has a predominantly agrarian economy, with the local population cultivating crops such as rice and rubber, as well as engaging in small-scale trade and handicrafts. Historically an important traditional settlement, Bobolu has been gradually rebuilt after the civil war, and its infrastructure is constantly being improved. The city is small but carries local cultural and commercial functions, and is an important node connecting the northern villages to the regional economy. With a population of about 30,000, the city is home to a diverse range of ethnic groups who live in harmony, preserving a unique blend of traditional tribal practices and modern development.
