Firyang County, now belonging to Tongling City, Anhui Province, is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River, in the hinterland of the Anhui River Plain, and has been a famous town in the eastern part of the Yangtze River since ancient times. It was called "Tongcheng" in ancient times, and later renamed Firyang because of "many fir trees in the land". It is one of the birthplaces of Tongcheng School of Culture, and has been known as "the country of literature and poetry". The Floating Mountain in its territory is a national geopark, integrating volcanic landforms, cliff carvings and Buddhist culture; the wetland of Baidang Lake has beautiful scenery and rich produce. It has nurtured such literary figures as Fang Zhao and Liu Polaris, and the non-legacy "Dongxiang Martial Arts" and "Firyang Folk Song" have been passed down to this day. As an important node of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Firyang, with its beautiful landscape and rich humanities, is a bright pearl of Anhui River culture.
