Alligator Pond is a coastal fishing village in the parish of Manchester in southern Jamaica, on the Caribbean coast. The name derives from the crocodile (locally known as alligator) that was common in the area during the early colonial period, and "Pond" refers to its natural waters near the coast. The village focuses on traditional fishing and agriculture and is a peaceful destination to experience Jamaica's indigenous culture.
Allegiant Pond is situated on a steep hill facing the turquoise blue sea with its unique black sand beaches and coral reefs. It is surrounded by sugar cane fields and banana plantations, and the famous "Lover's Leap" cliffs are nearby. The climate is warm and dry, making it an important place to observe sea turtle nesting and migrating birds.
The local economy is based on fishing (especially lobster fishing) and coconut farming, and the weekly fishing market is an important community event. The village retains a strong Jamaican folklore tradition and is known for its hand-woven basketry and woodcarving crafts. A small music festival is held annually, showcasing a combination of reggae music and local folk dances.
