Yining, the capital of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, is located in the northern foothills of Tianshan Mountain and the central part of the Ili River Valley, and is the key point of the northern route of the ancient Silk Road and an important window for opening up the border to the west.
