Located in the northern part of Shanxi Province, China, Xinzhou is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, situated in the Fen and Hutuo River Basin, neighboring Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. As an important city in northern Jin, Xinzhou has a total population of about 2.7 million and an area of about 25,000 square kilometers, with 1 district and 12 counties under its jurisdiction, and the municipal government is located in Xinfu District.
Xinzhou has a long history and is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, with a history of more than 2,500 years of city building. It is home to the Buddhist holy site of Wutai Mountain, which is listed as a World Heritage Site, while Yanmen Pass, an important pass of the Great Wall, bears witness to China's ancient border military culture.
