Xiaoyi City is a county-level city under the administration of Luliang City in Shanxi Province, located at the southern edge of the Jinzhong Basin and the eastern foot of the middle section of the Luliang Mountain Range, and named for the culture of "filial piety" and "righteousness". It is the only city in China named after "Xiaoyi". With a long history, Xiaoyi was established as Guayan County during the Spring and Autumn Period, and then it went through changes and was abolished as a county and set up as a city in 1992. As a resource-based city, Xiaoyi has been known as the "home of the coal sea", the coal industry as the pillar of the economy, and in recent years, actively promote industrial transformation. Xiaoyi has a rich cultural heritage, with shadow puppets and puppet shows listed as national intangible cultural heritages, traditional folklore and historical relics, and is one of the important birthplaces of Jin merchant culture.
