Wuling is located in the northwestern part of China's Hunan Province and is the core area of Zhangjiajie City, known for the World Natural Heritage Wulingyuan Scenic Spot. This area, which covers the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Suoxiyu Nature Reserve, is listed as a UNESCO World Geopark for its unique quartz sandstone peak forest landscape. Thousands of rocky peaks rise up, surrounded by clouds and mist like a fairyland, and were the inspiration for the Hallelujah Mountains in the movie Avatar.
Wuling is not only blessed with magnificent natural landscapes, but also rich in the cultures of the Tujia, Miao and other ethnic minorities. The local traditional villages, folklore performances and specialties (such as Tujia bacon) demonstrate the deep humanistic heritage. As an eco-tourism destination, it offers hiking, photography and adventure activities, attracting millions of tourists annually, and is one of China's first 5A-level tourist attractions.
Located in the southeastern part of Chongqing Municipality, China, Pengshui Miao Tujia Autonomous County is situated in the Wuling Mountains and the middle and lower reaches of the Wujiang River, and is the only Miao Tujia Autonomous County in Chongqing Municipality. Famous for its unique ethnic culture and natural landscape, Penshui boasts national scenic spots such as the Ayi River, Wujiang River Gallery, and Mowei Mountain, incorporating karst landscape wonders such as canyons, caves, and rivers.
As the cultural gathering place of Miao and Tujia, Pengshui retains rich ethnic traditions, such as the intangible cultural heritage of the Miao Stomping Flower Mountain Festival and the Tujia Pendulum Dance. The economy is based on agriculture and tourism, and specialties such as Pengshui camphor and Miao embroidery are popular among tourists. Conveniently connected to the main city of Chongqing and surrounding areas via the Yuxiang Expressway and the Wujiang River waterway, it is an important node for cultural tourism in the Wuling Mountain Region.
