Wenshui County is located in the central part of Shanxi Province, China, under Lvliang City, on the western edge of the Taiyuan Basin, with a total area of about 1,068 square kilometers. The county has a strong agricultural industry, producing wheat, corn and other grain crops, and is one of Shanxi's most important liquor-producing regions, with the famous Fen Liquor brand originating from the neighboring city of Fenyang, and Wenshui has benefited from this regional industrial linkage.
Wenshui County is rich in history and is the hometown of Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty, with historical sites such as the Zetian Temple. The local traditional culture is rich, and folk arts such as paper-cutting and rice-planting songs are listed as intangible cultural heritage.
