The city is a blend of history and modernity, with ancient relics of the Lancang Kingdom and European-style buildings from the French colonial period. The iconic Tha Luang is Laos' Buddhist mecca, its golden spires gleaming in the sunlight, while the Xan Thong Temple attracts many visitors with its exquisite carvings and tranquil atmosphere. With a slow pace of life, the aroma of baguettes and the breeze of the Mekong River permeating the streets, Vientiane is the ideal place to experience Laos' blend of tradition and modernity.
