Verlaine is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Liège in the Walloon Region, on the banks of the Meuse River, about 20 kilometers from the city of Liège. The city is known for its peaceful countryside, rich historical buildings and traditional agriculture. With a population of about 4,000, it is a typical Belgian town in the French-speaking part of the country.
The history of Verlaine dates back to the Middle Ages, preserving Romanesque buildings such as the Church of St. Martin, as well as 17th-century castles and farmsteads. Famous for its cherry growing and fruit wine production, the region hosts traditional festivals every summer, showcasing Walloon folk culture.
Surrounded by the hills and forests of the Meuse Valley, Verlaine is suitable for hiking and cycling. Visitors can visit historic wine cellars, experience orchard picking or explore the natural landscape along the river. Its proximity to Liège and Namur makes it a peaceful stopover for exploring the Belgian Ardennes.
