Founded in the 10th century as an important trading post of ancient Rus, the city suffered many wars in its history, and from the 19th century onwards it gradually developed into an industrial town, especially important in the field of aeronautics manufacturing, where part of the facilities of the famous Antonov Aircraft Factory were located. As one of the satellite towns of the Kiev Oblast, Vasilkiv is conveniently connected to the capital by highway, retaining the cultural heritage of traditional Ukrainian towns while combining the dynamism of a modern industrial city, making it a window on the history and development of the central region of Ukraine.
