Achham is a border city in the far western region of Nepal, located on the border with the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in the Saheb district. The city is situated in the extension of the Terai Plain, which is relatively flat and has a warm and humid climate suitable for agriculture, and is one of the major producers of rice, wheat and pulses in the region. Achham has a diverse population, predominantly ethnic Tharu, and retains a distinctive culture of traditional practices and festivals, such as the Tharu harvest festival of "Saenti".
