Located in the Osh region of southwestern Kyrgyzstan, Uzgen is one of the oldest cities in Kyrgyzstan, with a history dating back to the 2nd century BC. As an important hub of the Silk Road, it was once a major center of the Karakhan dynasty and retains a rich cultural heritage. The city is famous for the ancient architectural complex of Uzgen, including three 11th-century brick mausoleums and a minaret, the remains of which are a blend of Persian and Islamic architectural styles and are on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The local economy is predominantly agricultural, with an abundance of fruits and nuts, and traditional handicrafts such as carpet weaving are also featured.
