Towson is the county seat of Baltimore County in the U.S. state of Maryland, located about 12 kilometers north of downtown Baltimore and is part of the core of the Baltimore metropolitan area. Founded in 1768 and officially established as a town in 1854, it is known for its rich historical heritage and modern development. As one of the most densely populated communities in Maryland, Towson is home to approximately 56,000 residents (2020 data) and is an important commercial, educational and cultural center in northern Baltimore.
