Introduction to Tongxiao Township, Taiwan, China

Tongxiao Township is located in the southwest of Miaoli County, Taiwan, China, bordering the Taiwan Strait to the west, and is a typical coastal town. It has an area of about 107.8 square kilometers and a population of about 35,000 people. The old name of the town was "Tunxiao", which originated from the phonetic translation of the Pingpu aborigines, and was later renamed to its present name in 1920.

Natural and Human Characteristics

Tunxiao has a wealth of natural landscape resources, including the Tunxiao Coastal Recreation Park, the Tunxiao Beach and Qiu Mao Yuan and other well-known attractions. Hutou Mountain Park is only 93 meters above sea level, but it is the site of an important military monument on the west coast of Taiwan, with the remains of a fort built during the Japanese colonial period and a viewing platform overlooking the Taiwan Strait.

Economy and Industry

The local economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism, with crops such as watermelons and peanuts in abundance. The Tongxiao Power Plant is an important power facility in Taiwan, and has developed into a green energy demonstration base in recent years.
