Founded in the 18th century, it has a rich historical heritage, with a distinctive local Catholic sanctuary and colonial architecture. Economically, agriculture (e.g. sugar cane, fruit cultivation) and light industry are the mainstays, and in recent years tourism has also gradually developed. Alto Toa attracts visitors with its pleasant climate, friendly community atmosphere, and surrounding lakes and parks, making it an ideal place to experience Puerto Rico's native culture. As part of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, it blends the warmth of the Caribbean with the conveniences of an American-style community, displaying a unique island flavor.
