The capital of the Adrar Province of Mauritania, Tidjikja is located in the heart of the Sahara Desert and is known as the "Pearl of the Desert". Founded in the 17th century, this historic town was an important trading hub for Berber and Saharan caravans, and still retains its traditional mud-brick buildings and ancient mosques, attracting explorers with its unique Saharan flavor. As the administrative and economic center of the Adrar region, the area around Tigent is known for its spectacular sand dunes, craters and petroglyph sites, making it an ideal place to experience nomadic culture and desert life.
