Tangyin is also known as the birthplace of the Zhouyi, with the surviving ruins of Pili City, the site of the first prison in Chinese history. The economy is based on agriculture, producing crops such as wheat and corn, as well as developing food processing and tourism. Transportation is convenient, with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway running through the city.
