Taimali is located in the northeastern part of Taitung County, Taiwan Province of China, facing the Pacific Ocean to the east, and is an important township on the Nanhui Highway. It is famous for its stunning sunrise view, known as the "Township of the Rising Sun", and attracts a large number of tourists on New Year's Day every year to greet the first dawn on Taiwan's main island.
Taimali is home to such well-known attractions as the Golden Needle Mountain Recreation Area and the Millennium Dawn Memorial Park, and the sea of golden needles that fills the mountains in summer is particularly spectacular.
