Shusha is a historic city in western Azerbaijan, located in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, known as the "Pearl of the Caucasus". Founded in the 18th century as the capital of the Karabakh Khanate, the city, which is about 1,500 meters above sea level, has a rich cultural heritage, including the 18th-century Jami Mosque, the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary and other ancient buildings, as well as a complex of traditional stone sculptures. Famous for its unique musical traditions and carpet craftsmanship, Shusha is an important symbol of Azerbaijani culture, and after regaining control of Azerbaijan following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Shusha is currently working on cultural heritage restoration and urban renewal, attracting more and more tourists to explore its historical charms.
