Shusha is a historic city in western Azerbaijan, located in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, known as the "Pearl of the Caucasus". Founded in the 18th century as the capital of the Karabakh Khanate, the city, which is about 1,500 meters above sea level, has a rich cultural heritage, including the 18th-century Jami Mosque, the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary and other ancient buildings, as well as a complex of traditional stone sculptures.
