Spanish Lookout is a town in the Cayo District of Belize, located in the western part of the country, about 35 kilometers from the capital city of Belmopan. The place derives its name from the strategic observation point that was historically set up by the Spanish colonizers and is now an important agricultural and eco-tourism center of Belize.
Spanish Lookout is situated on the edge of the Maya Mountains and is surrounded by tropical rainforests with a rich biodiversity. Surrounded by several cave systems (such as Barton Creek Cave) and pristine rivers, it is a popular destination for hiking, caving and bird watching. The climate is tropical, with the dry season (February-May) suitable for outdoor activities.
The local population is predominantly of Mayan descent and Mestizo, and the economy is based on citrus farming, beekeeping and tourism. Visitors can experience Mayan cultural sites, traditional handicraft markets, and participate in organic farm tours. The town is also an important gateway to the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve.
Major attractions include the Barton Creek Caves (an underground river that can be explored by paddle boat), the San Ignacio Weekend Market, and the Green Parrot Eco Lodge. Because of its proximity to Belize's largest wildlife sanctuary, it is often used as a base for eco-tours and adventure trips.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
